Trip to Kawah Putih ( White Crater )


Kawah Putih tourist attractions in Bandung is the most famous. Located in Ciwidey, West Java, approximately 50 KM south of the city of Bandung, Kawah Putih is a lake formed as a result of the eruption Patuha. History of Kawah Putih

The story of Kawah Putih began in the 10th century where there was a terrific explosion by Patuha. After this eruption, many people assume that this location is haunted region because each bird flew past the region will die.


Over time, the confidence of the haunted this place began to fade, until finally in 1837 there was a botanist with German nationality came to this area to do some research. Researcher named Dr. Franz Wilhelm Junghuhn is very interested in the desolate mountain region which is not even a bird on it so he went around the village to look for information. At that time, all the information he got was that the kasawan haunted and inhabited by spirits.




For Dr. Franz Wilhelm Junghuhn, the local public statement does not make sense. Because not believe these stories, he went into the jungle to find out what was there. Long story short, eventually Dr. Franz Wilhelm Junghuhn managed to reach the top of the mountain, and from there he saw where a beautiful lake is white with a pungent sulfur smell.

Since then, the existence of Kawah Putih Ciwidey became famous and started from 1987, the government develop this area as a tourist spot that offers a unique experience to see the lake that can change color.

Ways to Kawah Putih

Kawah Putih is located at Jalan Raya Soreang Ciwidey KM 25 is located not far from the tourist attractions Situ Patenggang and can be reached easily if you bring your own vehicle because there are many signposts. From Jakarta, you only need to use the toll lanes Cipularang and exit through the toll booth Kopo. From there you have to go to Soreang and drive to the south Ciwidey.

When using public transportation, you can ride public transportation from the terminal Leuwi length leading to the terminal Ciwidey. From the terminal Ciwidey, you can use public transportation to the Situ and down in front of the gate Kawah Putih.

Underground parking (car): 6,000 Rupiah
Underground parking (motor): 5,000 Rupiah
Underground parking (bus): 25,000 Rupiah
The meaning of the above parking is bring your vehicle to the location of the crater, the bus can not park at the top. The purpose of the underground parking is to park your vehicle at the entrance and then you can ride ontang hoop to get to the crater.

What it ontang-anting? Ontang earring comes from Sundanese language meaning 'fro' and is a term for a typical vehicle Ciwidey Kawah Putih. This vehicle is in the form of a mini bus that has been modified to be open and equipped with safety. Maximum capacity for 1 ontang-anting is 12 people, but do not worry do not get a place because there are many ontang anting operating in this region.
